Golf Holidays in Portugal
Portugal is one of Europe’s most popular holiday destinations. It is renowned for its wide range of contrasting and world class golf courses offering excellent accommodation within the regions of the compelling Algarve and the cultural city of Lisbon. Our selected 4 and 5 star hotels and championship golf courses cater for golfers, couples, solo travellers, families, groups along with non-golfers. Due to its climate and dramatic range of golf courses, Portugal is one of the most attractive locations for a golfing holiday, with golfers revisiting year-on-year.
Central Algarve
The centre of the Algarve is undoubtedly the most popular and widely visited area. Within central Algarve, you’ll not only find the lively resorts including Albufeira and Vilamoura, but also historical towns of Salves and Lobule. The natural setting of Quinta do Lago, set by the Ria Formasa Natural Park boasts a unique feel, offering first class accommodation. The region features many phenomenal championship courses, with some having hosted European tour events. Golf courses include the beautiful pine tree lined courses in Quinta do Lago, to the spectacular cliff tops of Vale do Lobo.
Eastern Algarve
While most visitors generally gravitate to the golf, beaches and resorts of central and western Algarve region, the east has unique experiences to offer visitors, especially those looking to escape the crowds, take in a quiet sea view, or explore a more quintessential Portuguese town. It is a land of wild walks, deserted sandy beaches, half-forgotten islands, wild wetlands and historic villages. The biggest town is the picturesque Tavira that has a labyrinth of cobbled streets with traditional tiled houses and small family run restaurants. Eastern Algarve offers the award winning Jack Nicklaus designed Monte Rei Resort.
Western Algarve
The western Algarve is more rugged and windswept than both central Algarve and eastern Algarve. Whilst it has an abundance of coastal resort locations; the coastline is surrounded by steep cliffs, with some incredible hidden beaches. Western Algarve is everywhere west of Portimão to the Atlantic coast. Within this area traditional working cities such as Portimão, to small fishing villages including Salema. Western Algarve plays host to the “grandfather” of all golf courses found in the Algarve; Penina.
Lisbon
Lisbon is a location that has played host to European tour events, offering a spectacular and cultural contrast to its southern neighbour. The Estoril Coast has two fine resorts on the coast at Estoril and Cascais. The Sintra Hills offers a stunning backdrop to a selection of inland championship courses including Oitavos Dunes, Penha Longa and Quinta da Marinha. While the dramatic coastline provides a wonderful contrast of championship golf courses, further up the coast you will discover the cultural un-spoilt towns of Obidos and Peniche, near the coastline of Praia Del Rey.
